Οι Ομπρέλες αρχικά είχαν τοποθετηθεί στην Biennale της Βενετίας το 1993 και στη συνέχεια στο Κτίριο Συμβουλίου Υπουργών της Ευρωπαϊκής Ένωσης στις Βρυξέλες. Το 1996 το γλυπτό μεταφέρθηκε στη Θεσσαλονίκη όταν η πόλη προετοιμαζόταν για τον ρόλο της πολιτιστικής πρωτεύουσας της Ευρώπης ( 1997 ). Ένα άλλο έργο με όμοιο τίτλο δωρίζεται, και στήνεται στον αύλιο χώρο, στο Μακεδονικό Μουσείο Σύγχρονης Τέχνης.
The first umbrellas were placed in the Venice Biennale in 1993 and then at the Council of Ministers of the European Union in Brussels. In 1996 the sculpture was moved to Thessaloniki when the city was preparing for the role of cultural capital of Europe (1997). Another project donated a similar title, and in the courtyard, the Museum of Contemporary Art.
