I've been wondering for years about the occasionally very inconsistent and non-transparent approach of Panoramio to the selection of pictures for Google Earth. So far I didn't consider it a big deal, just one of these odd things around. That view changed today when I coincidentally realized that THIS picture - among others - was silently removed from GE a couple of weeks ago.
So here's my question to Panoramio folks:
DO YOU GUYS AT PANORAMIO HAVE NOTHING ELSE TO DO BUT REMOVE VERY POPULAR PICTURES FROM GOOGLE EARTH???
For the topic of Google Earth aproved photographs, should be considered that this application has mainly a geographical character. I think that Panoramio was created as a ground level photographic complement of the satellite images; furthermore Panoramio users have surpassed this original orientation with photographs of more creative freedom. Perhaps the Panoramio Groups are a resource to allow these not GE approved photographs can be viewed by other Panoramio users, regardless of the G. Earth original application. Another point is that I think these photographs are selected by an automatic program of limited intelligence and some erratic behavior.
