Suncheon bay, facing the South Sea, takes the influence of the sea much. Therefore an average temperature of most cold month is about 0℃. A yearly average temperature is 13.9℃. The annual range is smaller than other area.

The history of Suncheon Bay can be traces back almost 8000 years. Geological research indicates that after the last glacial epoch, sea levels rose by about 160 meters. This transformed the western landmass of Korea into sea and the Korean Peninsula topography developed as it is known today. It's believed that the brackish water, mud, and sand that is deposited by the Dong-Cheon river into the Bay Area created an extensive sandbank that was formed over thousands of years.
