Oh yes, I see what you mean! I do believe that the San Francisco Russians (the first wave of immigration) came from areas around Moscow Oblast, so that would make sense. Thanks for the link!

Late 19th Century due to pogroms, hunger, etc.
White Russians and Jews during & after the revolution and civil war.
Soviet Jews (then also "economic refugees") after Glasnost/Perestroika.
