Quiet, Church Zone!

Not selected for Google Earth or Google Maps [?]

Early morning in front of St. Luis Cathedral, few musicians get together, even before the tourist hit the street (except me). They are warming up with few hot ‘licks’ on the 'licorice stick' (clarinet in English) and hot beverage.

All people who are playing the streets in New Orleans Old Quarter are good enough to play any club in your town. Here, they are playing for peanuts… Enlarge to read the sign.

As far as New Orleans go, the Quiet! sign is not entforced. They actually have jazz music inside the catedral.

I missed one concert, by one day. They had several performances of Christmas music in New Orleans style in December.

You see various musicians, entertainers in the late morning walking towards Vieux Carre in the hope, that there will be enough generous tourist, so the can have some change for their food and rent.

With so many great musicians in one place, it is truly survivor of the best and smartest, yet there is a great camaraderie in the musician community.

I like this one very much, Tomas. Not only is it just pleasing to look at but there's a lot to be read from it. e.g. the Santa Claus hat tells it's Xmas etc. I can well believe these gents are very good musicians. Most times when I go into London there are buskers I could listen to for hours.

Best wishes, Brian.

LF great photo in New Year's mood - it's rare to meet Santa Claus with a big big French horn ;-)

best regards from snowy Slovenia (we've finally got "our" 26 cm last night)
