Fallen Star

Selected for Google Maps and Google Earth

The majestic old Benedictine Abbey continues to attract my attention so I could not resist taking another shot..A full moon, partially hidden behind some clouds, gave some extra light. A long exposure and manual focus helped to deliver a pleasing result..Despite all the criticism regarding the Pentax K7's low light level performance, I am reasonably happy with the result..Please feel free to add your own opinions! I thank my friend nanoinca for the idea of the title :)

V1NCE~~~~I rarely take my tripod Vince..Only because my little dog gets easily wrapped up in its legs...Dog-leads and tripods do not mix! In this case, I sat the camera on top of a nearby stone wall...Many thanks for your fine compliment :)

K@rin~~~~Then you will know how difficult it is to describe the old Abbeys disposition relative to it's surroundings..I'm really glad you liked this night shot K@rin

Sababoy~~~I greet you warmly Sababoy and thank you for your kind Springtime wishes :) Winter in Iran may not yet be over..

Norrel~~~It's always a pleasure to receive a visit from you Norrel and I very much appreciate your generous remarks and of course, the Y* :)

arno18~~~~Much appreciated Arno :)

Yosarsif مهدی کلهر, 3~~~~Eventually, I will venture out into the galleries to review all those new photos Mahdi :) You are at the top of my "to do" list :)

© KennyW~~~~The old Abbey continues to attract visitors Kenny and many a thickly battered cod is devoured under it's watchful eye :) Just as well since the parking fees helps to keep my poll tax down :)

-ila-~~~~I greet you warmly -ila-...it's a pleasure to welcome you to these pages ;) At long last, my broadband connection seems to be running normally...My inability to answer my mail on time is the biggest problem now!

Stuart Murphy~~~~This ancient monument continues to attract my attention Stuart :) it certainly has a magnetic pull!

Eva Kaprinay~~~Good to see you again Eva :) many thanks for your wonderful comment :)

©junebug~~~~Night photography is one of my favourite pastimes Anne..Very often, the results are a complete surprise..and I rarely know what has been caught on the image sensor until it is displayed on the computer screen..I'm really pleased that this shot conveys the feeling of mystery and that special atmosphere that many of us experience when visiting these ancient and historic sites..Your generous appraisal means a lot!

bjgeo~~~~I'm happy for your kind appraisal, thank you :)

beegood~~~~Dear Maja, I'm honoured to receive your glowing praise and flattered by your generosity..The Y* means a great deal to me! The star effect came from a nearby street lamp..It was strategically located for sure!

To you all, I express my sincere gratitude for your visits, precious comments, your endorsements, likes, especially the Y*'s and for taking the time to look!

Kind regards :)

Perfect amount of light and very effective how the moon has only lit the side leaving the front in shadow! ysl

Shaun Thomason~~ A warm welcome Shaun..Some of the light here is artificial since there are a few concealed floodlights around the abbey. However, at 15 second exposure, a lot of that moonlight is registered..I'm grateful for your thoughtful comments and YSL :)

jknaus~~~IT's good to see you Joni :) your evaluation means a lot to me, thank you so much!

Geezer Vz~~~~Finding a "new angle" for capturing this ancient monument is a good deal more difficult than the shot itself Guy..The grounds are closed at night and substantial stone walls prevent easy access..besides, any one caught here could be committing a criminal offence! So I was lucky to find a foothold on the wall to give me the reach I needed to take this shot! I value your fulsome appraisal and Y*.

To you all, I express my sincere gratitude for your visits, precious comments, your endorsements, likes, especially the Y*'s and for taking the time to look!

Kind regards :)

Good to have you back, Jim. i can't get enough of your "abbey"

i love the effect of the light & (deep)shadow here and the depth of field (focus). i knew that was not a star but can not imagine this moving capture without it ;)
