Herring Fishermen - Parksville Bay

Selected for Google Maps and Google Earth

The herring are in the bay to spawn. These boats are anchored just beyond the dropoff, waiting to retrieve their nets. If you zoom in, you can make out crew members getting ready to head out in the skiffs. The seagulls you see here are just a small percentage of the ones along the shoreline in both directions.

Good actionshot Randy. Because of the strand in front, the picture shows very good that they are fishing on a very short distance from land and the seagulls I think, have also a nice meal over there.

Good observations Jack. I was toying with whether or not to leave the foreground beach in the image and decided it was best for the reason you mentioned. On an extreme low tide, you can walk right out to about 25m of where those boats are anchored...and yes, the seagulls are having quite the feast.

Cheers, Randy
