Very lovely garden,Ainars, almost better in Winter.Ciao Daniela
This is second oldest park in Riga. After big fire in 1812, this part of Riga was burn down. One year later was established special garden commision who collected volunteer donations to plant trees and create garden beds with flowers. Everyone in town, who made donation at least one Russia rubel, was allowed to plant trees there, and widow Mrs. Gertrude Verman donated for this fund very big amount of money and after that all agreed in commission, than this park must be named in her hame as "Vermanes garden!" Garden officially are opened since 8th June, year 1817. In later years park area was extended by donating extra territories from connected lands and houses owners.
In year 1869 was installed great fountain, made from bronze and zinc in Berlin, by popular German sculptors.
I have one older photo where we can see that fountain just few years after full restoration and reopening again at end of past 70ties. :)
