Perfect lighting for a wonderful shot! I was pleased to get any sort of shot of a pileated, but this ... Congratulations!
Those pileated had also been very elusive to me. Area too dark, too far away, wrong lens on when spotted, too slow to get camera out of bag,...etc.
This fellow actually startled me today while I was snowshoeing. Luckily I had my camera out and he allowed me to get close enough for the lens I'd mounted. Would have wished for less shadows but I'm still happy with the shot :)
Those birds are truly amazing and your photo is spectacular, as always, Milan! :D
Going by the size of those holes they must be really noisy fellows!
wow, panamon, you must have rushed home to download this and see how it came out! what a GREAT CATCH!
Great capture! Thanks for sharing. You can be proud of it:-)
kamaly, no rush otherwise I might have gotten entangled in my snowshoes and could have broken a leg :)
oronbb, thanks. I'm rather picky and rarely proud ;)
Thanks, those guys chiseled that tree to little bits and pieces. They are mostly after ants and other insect larvae that live in those dead trees
Hi Panamon_Creel, isn't it nice to get such a chance to capture this bird?! I was a lucky dog too :-).
P.S. Yes, I know: My one is only a "european version" with less color and size...
Wonderful image, Panamon_Creel! Best wishes. Eva
Very good and sharp picture of this woodpecker! Well done!
Such a great photo! I have seen this bird many times but have never seen it stand so still for so long. Thanks.
Muy buena su foto, en Chile tambien hay unos carpinteros hermosos
Very nice! Greetings from Brasil. I love the birds! See if you like this sunset at sea with birds
PErfect photo! I really like Pileated Woodpeckers! The best photos I was able to take were at the Okefenokee Swamp in Southern GA!
Greetings from Augusta, GA!
