Hi, A subtle difference: support over the fish. Greetings Maciej

Hi Maciejk - Thanks for the comment. You are right, this piece of stone above the left fish has been removed since you took your photo. May be archaeologists found it was misplaced? The way it hanged above the fish's head was strange anyway, and you may notice that there is no trace left of it's fixation now. By the way, there are two fishes which are obviouly dolphins, one of each side of the prow, with their heads sightly turned away from the hull, like if they were watching for possible incoming foes... But still that celebrated naval battle remains unknown! - Greetings from France - Cottius

Hi Cottius, Thanks for your next comments. Certainly, dolphin (mammal) not fish (mythology). Greetings Maciej

Hi again, I have found only: "It is believed to have been constructed in memory of a naval victory by the Ptolemies in the 3rd century BCE. The statue originally had wings, which are since long gone." - http://lexicorient.com/libya/cyrene02.htm

Thanks for the info Maciej! The photo is indeed very interesting although I prefer the "new version" with the statue - Best - Cottius
