The Eerde estate

"Achterbroek" and "Eerde Estate" lie in Salland region between the Regge and the Vecht rivers. It seems as if time has stood still here. The castle, the canals and baroque park wood show the power and wealth of former owners.

Historic landscape

The fields- and farmlandscape are typical and look unscathed. The layout of the landscape is almost the same as in the late Middle Ages. Who wanders between fields and picturesque farms, experiences the tranquility and beauty of a distant past.

The estate had quirky lodgers. A robberknight : Evert van Essen in the fourteenth century was feared for in a far and wide region. During a punitive expedition his castle was set on fire. The present castle was built three centuries later. The philosopher Krishnamurti taught there in the thirties theosophy. Later the Quakers settled at Eerde.

Since 1986, the estate is owned by "Natuurmonumenten". Preserving grounds and nature. The castle itself is now an established international school. At the grounds of Eerde live special animals and plants. In July the meadows are covered with beautiful colors with angioplasty, Pentecostal and campion. Bird concerts sound throughout the year.
