ST. MARY'S ISLES, MALPE, UDUPPI, KARNATAKA, INDIA. THE ROCKS ARE BELIEVED TO BE THE REMAINS OF THE PETRIFIED LAVA FROM A SUPER VOLCANO EXPLODED IN THE DECCAN AREA MILLIONS OF YEARS AGO WHICH ALSO MADE THE DECCAN PLATEAU. ALTHOUGH NATIVES KNEW AND NAMED THE ISLES, IT WAS PORTUGUESE NAVIGATOR VASCO DA GAMA WHO VISITED THE ISLAND IN THE 16TH CENTURY AND NAMED THE ISLANDS AS ST. MARY'S ISLANDS.
