" BELGRADE - TAŠMAJDAN PARK is one of the largest and most beautiful central parks. It is located in the city center, near the church of Saint Mark, the site with a significant and long history. It bears the name of Turkish origin, where word "taš" means stone and "majdan" meaning mine. Although his name is of Turkish origin, a quarry at this location already existed even in times of ancient Singidunum. Later that site was a location of the cemetery which was relocated in late 19th century. During the Nazi invasion of the 1941st, the caves beneath the park housed the city administration. Park that we know today was formed in late 50s of last century and has recently entered the first major reconstruction since it was built. "
