Thank you, woventhoughtdesign.com. I will always remember how this heron sat still even after we came upon it by surprise and had time to get out cameras and photograph his bath. There was a chill in the air and I'm sure he wasn't going to give up his luxuries just for us. -alicia

A marvellous photo, Alicia! I often observe these animals, but I have never yet seen, that looks as this just bathed one.

Hello Manfred and thank you for that link to your wonderful white herons. This is a blue heron I believe, and rather than being graceful like yours, he seems to be showing his less glamorous side here. Best regards, alicia

What a nice capture, Alicia! I love how you got the sun in his eyes just perfectly! It can make or break a shot such as this, but you've definitely GOT IT! :)
Beautiful shot!
Happy greetings to you,
Mary Alice

This great blue heron thanks you for noticing him, Mary Alice. He was definitely in relaxation mode here, exposing his 'undersides' for the longest time. Thanks for your kindest comments, -alicia

If herons are not the most insane looking birds around, I don't know what it.
This one looks absolutely bonkers! However its a brilliant photo and you did well and deserve to be pleased with this.
Getting good photos of birds sometimes requires more luck than anything else. That's certainly the story with this one of mine

Hello jethrohoyt and thank you for your fun comments and kind words. This heron did look bonkers and also like he couldn't care less about us humans gawking at him. We were lucky to come upon him, but he was not about to leave his sunbath any time soon, so we had plenty of 'prep' time for this.
Your 'unhappy lunch' is a great photo, and I will stop by there again - thank you for the link! Best from alicia in Washington
