In 2003 the sturdy, inhabitable, old 1930s buildings of what was Leeds Modern Grammar School (former pupils include Alan Bennnet), now Lawnswood School, were demolished to be replaced by new modern buildings; these have been cleverly designed with lots of windows so that the building is freezing cold in winter and like a greenhouse in winter, rewuiring the pupils to be sent home when conditions become unendurable!
