Monterey Clipper Boats at Fisherman's Wharf

These Monterey clipper fishing boats are among the few remaining in San Francisco today. Most are now used for recreation or hobby, since they are too slow to be commercially viable as fishing craft. The popular Monterey clipper was built around 1900 by an Italian fisherman who put an engine on a traditional, "Italian felucca" fishing boat.
