St Walburge's Church is a Roman Catholic church located in Preston, Lancashire, England. It is dedicated to Saint Walpurga and is a Grade I listed building.[1]

It is one of the tallest buildings of any type in Lancashire, with a steeple or spire of 309 feet (94 m). It is the fifth-tallest church in the United Kingdom, after Salisbury Cathedral, St Paul's Cathedral, Liverpool Cathedral and Norwich Cathedral, and therefore the tallest church that is not a cathedral.

St. Walburge's Church and Spire tower above 'The Maudlands' area of Preston, Many of my Ancestors were Baptised, Confirmed and received their 1st Communion, were Married and had their Funerals here. This is one of the most beautiful Churches in Britain. Many parishioners collected with their 'Penny Boxes', to raise funds in the 1840s. I am proud to say this was my Church. But sadly may soon close in the near future, due to small numbers of parishioners left in the area.

Sorry to hear it may soon close. Like so many other english churches it will probably be turned into luxury apartments , so at least the outer fabric will be retained for future generations to see and hopefully appreciate.

Just a bit of trivia......this gorgeous church was designed by Joseph Hansom, the same man who invented the Hansom Cab.

I've been to Christmas mass a few times to St. Walburge's, it's a beautiful place.
