7th day - rest (sailing). You had to do something to keep from going island happy. The two white square on the right where antennas from the Mercury - Gemini (60's) mission days. This was the 70s - Apollo, cold war etc.. Everything on the island was of historical significants or protected. Abandoned to the elements, rusting and slowly disappearing. The lagoon was great for scuba, snorkeling and sailing. It was a nursery for fish. All fish! clouds of fish that would embarrass an aquarium. Eels, manta-rays, and sharks where plentiful. Two whale sharks came for a visit one week. The 15' Grey nurse shark is very impressive on a night dive!! Clarity was excellent within a few hundred yards of the channel because of the tides. It reduced to a very few inches further back into the lagoon. We dove 95ft hole. The decay was so bad that after only a 5 minute dive, my bright yellow dive vest turned dark mustard in color and my lead weights were black from the chemical reaction.
The reef side was infinitely clear {as tap water) and more dangerous. You had to be selective where you dove because of the strong currents. Generally, what you found in the lagoon was 3 times bigger out here. Sea temp.: 81-83 year round. Air:70-96. The humidity usually matched.
