This is the Whitby upper harbour at low water. The depth of water at the weir is only half a metre or so. The tide rises and falls twice per day and during spring tides, the height can exceed 6.5 metres. The white shed in the background is in fact a temporary canopy, cladding a very large scaffold frame. A new ship of several hundred tonnes is being constructed within the shelter of the canopy. Fishing vessels from around the UK visit this ship repair yard for major refits and general maintenance! In the enlarged view, a fishing vessel can be seen in the floating dock to the left of the canopy, it is undergoing routine maintenance.>>>>> THIS PHOTO IS BEST SEEN BY CLICKING ON IT THEN CLICKING view original image on the next image.
