A break from my usual offerings here on Panoramio - this charming fellow was snapped by myself some 25 odd years ago in the centre of London. I have taken it from a slide. He was playing a 'Hurdy-Gurdy' musical instrument, hence the name. I never knew his real name or background (maybe he was an actor?), but I think he knew the worth of his own characteristic face as people were clambering for photographs, so there might still be some of this chap somewhere else out there?

An absolute gem of a portrait! Congratulations Herb on a terrific photo'. Definitely what they call a 'lived in face!' with oodles of character there! Thanks for the pleasure, made it a FAV. Regards, David. P.S. I enjoy the info. you give, I must try harder in this respect!

arturo1 and David, apologies for not commenting on this earlier. (Too many holidays perhaps?) Very happy you both like this old portrait, taken in the days when I did much more of this kind of thing. They don't make them like this anymore. Thanks for the Fav and like my friends.
Cockroach thanks for bringing my attention to this. Very happy you think it good enough for your YS too. Yes, it was taken in the days when most of the male population smoked. (As in your country!)
Regards, Herb

Not at all. Yes dear Herb, many people smoke and now in my country. It is necessary to me to avoid theirs when I run by parkways and parks of Saratov. Slava.

Christos, nice to see you here again. A real portrait that one does not see nowadays, as you say, straight from Dickens.
Christine, welcome to my gallery. It is always nice to see new visitors here. I do not do many portraits nowadays, I leave that that to other photographers but I am honoured that you enjoy this so. Please call again.
Best wishes, Herb
