The old Christmas Tree farm next door attracts tens of thousands of birds each evening as a roosting area. The majority of them are Robins and is by far the largest grouping of them I've ever seen. They all scatter at sunrise to feeding areas but return each evening.

A simply amazing natural spectacle!

Beautiful shot, Tom. Wonderful catch!

Thank you Marilyn. This is one of the first shots I captured with my new 80-200mm F/2.8 lens. Really love the ability to get faster shutter speeds in these low light scenarios to freeze the action. Tom

You have very nice pictures, in spetial of sunsets, you live in a very beatuful place.

I look forward to seeing lots more taken with that lens, Tom! It's a winner--in the right hands, of course, and yours are obviously the right hands. Marilyn

This is a very good pic, Tomlight.Greetings

Hank Waxman, on January 10, said:

I want to applaud this shot too, Tom. It's a fascinating shot, and its beautiful, but honestly it lacks the simple, balanced beauty of the other post. Congrats on two great contributions to your collection.

Thank you Gerardo, Marilyn, j.ernesto and Hank.

I agree Hank, the other shot's simplicity really "spoke" to me. Don't know why but I'm beginning to learn.

Thanks again, Tom

Marilyn Whiteley, on January 11, said:

I'm still pondering the two shots. The other one has a wonderful, amazing serenity that satisfies and calms my spirit--a settled beauty. This has a dynamic beauty, definitely not the "balanced beauty" of the other. There's almost something unfinished about it: it's restless and doesn't settle down. But that's life, too, and I find it an marvelous expression of that aspect of our world and of our lives. Marilyn

Really appreciate the comments and selection for a gold star highton-ridley. Sometimes it's better to be lucky than good. But that's photography, to a certain extent.

It really is amazing as you say, Tom. The sunset or the flock of birds alone would make for a great shot, but the two together are really extraordinary. Great shot!

I feel humbled and blessed when a scene such as this transpires in front of me Brandon. Just hope I did it justice. Thanks for the comments. Tom

Aha! I have just found where you live. Wonderful shot, extraordinary. I hope you enjoy your open space with such an enormous river nearby (sorry minimal knowledge of US geography). Regards, Joce

© Tom Lussier, on May 15, said:

I am glad you have visited(at least in GE) my home in Virginia Joce. Thank you for your kind words. The river is the Potomac, named by Algonquin natives, meaning 'a trading place' while other natives called the river Cohongorooton, meaning 'a river of geese'. I am blessed to live so close to it.

Regards, Tom

P.S. My geography knowledge is equally lacking in reference to South Africa. :)

j. adamson, on May 16, said:

Isn't that tobacco country? I have heard of the Potomac in movies and books, though I'm glad I now know where it is. Regards, Joce

© Tom Lussier, on May 16, said:

It is tobacco country Joce. Actually where I live is horse country. The county I live in, Loudoun, has the state’s largest and the nation’s third largest horse population. Also an emerging wine area ranking second in Virginia in wine grape acreage planted.

Best regards, Tom
