thank-you v_k - it's a happy memory of a wonderful driving holiday from London up to the top of Scotland when our son Robin was still a baby.

Graham, I cannot find any cottages/farms on the Scottish bank of the Tweed in this area. Can you please check your location; which bridge did you cross into Scotland? Thanks.

I had a feeling I'd got it wrong SHoweMBOU, and the google aerial photos were much lower definition when I posted it, so it was a bit hit and miss anyway - truth is i can't remember exactly - it was taken in 1996 _ I know we'd stopped the night before in Northumbria, and the night before that in York and we'd come up from London - logically I'd have said we'd crossed on the A1 - but... I would be grateful if anybody could help me get it right :)

It shows a disused smithy near Ellemford on the Whiteadder river, in the Lammermuirs NW of Duns.

thanks so much for that RichardT123 - the old memory plays the odd trick - that would explain why I hadn't been able to find the right place before - I'm very grateful :) (by the way - I don't suppose you know your way round Norfolk windmills do you ?:)

You're welcome Graham, I was looking for a shot of Norham Bridge and immediately recognised this when it popped up, it's on my scenic back route to Edinburgh. Can't help on the windmills I'm afraid, I spent my college years in Norwich but unfortunately my recollections centre more on pubs...
