There are a number of ponds like this one in the immediate area between Gresford and Wrexham. They are thought to have been formed at the end if the Ice Age when the ice cap retreated leaving blocks of ice which sank into the ground before melting. If you should stop by here on a summer's day look out for the terrapins sunning themselves on the side. They were introduced into the lake after pets grew too large to keep
