Cranes on snow at Hornborgasjön

Selected for Google Maps and Google Earth

Snow fell on Good Friday on the 22 000 cranes resting at the lake, on their way north. In winter they stay in Spain, and in mid/end March they come here and stay some time before flying futher north. Earlier they stayed here because of potatoes left in the ground from the potato fields (used for producing the alcoholic drink "snaps"), but now grain is spread by human beings each night. In the night they stay in the lake, for shelter, but in the morning they leave the lake and come closer. They have also a dancing procedure. It is very impressive to see.

Thank you so much for showing us this beautiful photo from Sweden Mats. I was very interested in your information, so I looked up the crane dance, and indeed it is wonderful! :)))

Thank you very much Amelia for your kind comments. The dance of cranes is very special, and it is a lot of "noice". This year was special, since it came snow the day before we were there. Thanks for your link. It shows some dancing at the end. The lake of cranes also shows the dancing. Hälsningar, Mats.
