Enoggera Reservoir, Brisbane Q

The Enoggera Reservoir was built in 1866, and is still in use today. It was Queensland's first dam project and from it Brisbane was supplied with water. It wasn't until 1912 that filtration of the water commenced. In January 1974, severe flooding affected Brisbane with most attention given to the impact of the flood in the Brisbane River. But the local creeks including Enoggera Creek had a severe impact on the urban areas that were by this stage highly developed. This demanded a response from authorities and in 1976 a spillway was built and 7M added to the height of the wall to provide some flood storage. In 2003, this dam was decommissioned from use as a water supply for Brisbane, but the subsequent drought demanded it be used once again. It continues to be used as a source of urban water and is managed by a state government water authority.
