This unique project is the result of Will Becker’s creative energy and insight. The realisation and creation of the Willowman’s domain is the fruit of year’s of observation, study, imagination and a desire to show how a real “back to basics” sustainable existence could dare to become reality.
“This is who I am,” says Will Beckers, “here I feel free, I can be myself, in the village I have created with my own hands.”
Will Beckers has created a “world” made entirely from natural materials in the forests of the Floriade terrein. He lives in tree huts made from willow branches, each of the huts he has created have a specific purpose.
He lives in perfect symbiosis with his surroundings and understands the concept of living a cradle to cradle existence. Everything in his village has a purpose, and it is all linked with sustainable living.
“My philosophy is a simple one,” says Will, “I respect Nature and what she has to offer us, I also know that we can learn an enormous amount from Nature, this is very often underestimated and overlooked in our modern, results driven society. This is precisely why “The Willowman” has a strong appeal to children. They are young enough to let their imagination run wild and be creative without having the constraints of society to worry about if this is allowed or not.”
In a once in a lifetime opportunity, the Willowman is opening his doors to the children visiting the Floriade 2012, he is giving workshops to children and has set a challenge for them;
He is asking the children to help him build an enormous sculpture during the Floriade project. The Willowman hopes that with so many enthusiastic children visiting him, together they can build a truly monumental sculpture at the entrance to his domain.
“This is who I am”. says Will Beckers - The Willowman.
