Jan Mayen Passage (please enlarge)

Jan Mayen is a volcanic island in the arctic ocean between Iceland and Svalbard. The highest summit Beerenberg (elevation 2,277 m) seen here is partly covered by glaciers. The island was named after the Dutch whaling captain Jan Jacobs May van Schellinkhout who supposedly dicovered it in 1614. Since 2010 the island Jan Mayen is a nature reserve.
