Do you actually use passenger trains for transportation in England?

Only for transportation of passengers.

:) So I gathered. Here there are very few passenger trains, and they're more tourist attractions than anythting else. Lasy year my little cousins came out from the West Coast and we all took a train ride - complete with a staged robbery!

This particular train is on a preserved line as a tourist attraction; in Google Earth you can follow the line north and south to see where it ends. But in general there are many proper train services carrying around 2.75 million passengers a day.
The only Canadian train I've been on was the Esquimalt and Nanaimo Railway on Vancouver Island. I don't remember much about it except that we had to slow down for a bear on the track.
