Recent runoff discolours the water held in the 1,190,000 ML storage of Burrendong Dam on the Macquarie River, NSW. The old quarry pit from which much of the rockfill for the dams wall was sourced contains clean water by contrast.
The dam currently is holding only 10% capacity, but a small discharge from the dam is available to downstream irrigators in the regulated water-use area.
