This lighthouse at Palmetto Point is a privately maintained light constructed in the late 1980's.
Communications with officials in Nausau, capital of the Bahamas, for permission to install such a light, were met with enthusiastic approval.
In November 1992, Mr. Leon Flowers, Port Controller of the Bahamas, declared the light an official navigational beacon and it was put on the navigational charts used world wide.
