Venus and star trails over Saratoga Passage

Selected for Google Maps and Google Earth

Instead of one long exposure, I used a script in CHDK to shoot 280 13-second frames, then a program called StarStaX to combine those into an apparent 70-minute exposure.

The brightest streak, at bottom-center is Venus. The other bright streak is Capella, a magnitude 0.5 star a mere 42.2 light years away.

Canon Powershot S3IS with CHDK added, May 14, 2012.
