Entrance hall-Stourhead

What's the story?

Today, the house tells the story of Sir Richard Colt Hoare (1758-1838), the great grandson of its original creator, Henry Hoare I.

The rooms bring to life the work of this meticulous scholar and the considerable impact he had on the estate.

In the 1780s, grief drove Colt from Stourhead and he spent six years travelling across Europe. His experiences, particularly in Italy, influenced the rest of his life and shaped the house and garden we see today.

Entrance hall

Sir Richard Colt Hoare was respectful of family history, moving much of the family portrait collection here. Despite many changes, Colt remained true to his grandfather's, Henry Hoare II, vision for the garden, as a picturesque landscape evoking classical Italy.

Wat hadden en hebben ze toch om al die schilderijen boven elkaar te hangen. Heb me daar jaren geleden al over verbaasd in het Uffizi museum.

Wel goed weer gegeven, like.

Groetjes van Greetje

Prachtige interieur-kiek, wat je natuurlijk in dit geval ook een prachtige portret-kiek kunt noemen.

Groeten,

Jack
