Grant's Tomb afterglow (1959)

Selected for Google Maps and Google Earth

I have recently had scans made of more than 1600 slides (diapositives) from my pre-digital days. I will be posting a small sample of them over the next few weeks. Never fear: I will NOT be posting 1600!

This comes from 1959, when I was a graduate student in New York City, living on the 5th floor of International House, on Riverside Drive. I took this out the window at the end of the hall.

Hi Marilyn, welcome back. I was getting worried, having not heard from you or seen any posts. This is a unique view of Grant's Tomb and it's fair testimony that your talent and skill have been out in front for many years. Best regards, Hank

Thanks, Hank, for your comment. As you see, I've finally followed your lead and had many scans done. And I've been surprised in looking at the earlier ones how much continuity there is in my work. I hope that doesn't mean that I haven't been learning anything! Of course there's a vast difference between what an Argus C3 could do with the very slow Kodachrome of its day and what a sophisticated digital camera can do, but I can see that it's the same "eye" taking many of the photos.

I've been taking few pictures - lots of things going on, and somewhat increased mobility problems. But Hugh has a meeting at Banff early next month, and I'm certainly not going to be left behind!

Best wishes, Marilyn

Great picture Marilyn! I never would have guessed that this came from a slide. I look forward to seeing more of these oldies and any you get from Banff!
