Köln Cathedral. Not a great photo, but it has a great story.

In 1958, I stayed in the Hotel Deutzer-Hof in Köln. It was a WWII bunker, and it had no windows, only slots through its thick concrete walls. In my room, this "window" looked southwest toward the famous cathedral: this was the view.

Once when I came into the room, I happened to close the door before I turned on the light, and I saw an amazing thing. On the wall opposite the window, I saw this same image, upside-down, with the spires hanging down like stalactites. I was inside a box camera or camera obscura!

I wish I could map the photo. All I know is that it was across the river, northeast of the cathedral.

Ah, but you did not change your style, Marilyn. This is one of your beloved "through the window". ;-) cheers, Dany

Right you are, Dany. As I said to Hank in a comment on another picture, I was surprised to see so much similarity between many of my early pictures and my recent ones. Of course today's cameras let me do much more of what I want, while I was quite restricted back then.

Ah yes, camera obscura brings back happy recollections of my childhood days spent with Grand Mama during visits to Dumfries. On shopping trips while staying with her, if I had behaved myself I was rewarded with a trip to the camera obscura to view the upside down panorama of Dumfries!!

This is a very interesting and funny story of this photo, Marilyn.

Many greetings from Germany (about 75 km from Köln)
