House abandoned 11 years ago at asbestos site

I spent a good part of the day at our local mini-Pripiyat, North Ridge Estates, an upscale building site that had to be abandoned in 2001. It's eerie, and absurd that so much has gone to waste. About three families have stayed behind and, as far as anyone knows, they're thriving. However, cleanup is still in progress as money becomes available. A quote from a news article:

"The asbestos contamination resulted from demolition of buildings in the World War II-era marine barracks at the site. A 2001 anonymous tip about asbestos contamination at North Ridge led to state and federal surface cleanups and studies of the subdivision."

Really, I would gladly live here if the house was given to me! But, I can understand why people with children would not stay.
