I hate to rain on someone's parade but that picture is probably from Shiprock or Hogback, two towns west of Farmington. Simply because you cant see the volcanic plug called Shiprock for Farmington in most places, and the few that you can it is only a small peak on the horizon.

Dragoon, I'm appreciating your comment! I like taking photos of places that don't appear where they are actually at. This photo of Shiprock was taken on the west slope-hillside between Browning Parkway and Mesa View Jr High. Notice the rising steam, it's the city power plant on West Murray Drive. Zooming in the subject using a tripod completes the photo. Thanks Dragoon.

I lived in Farmington back in the 70's and saw Shiprock- is this Shiprock? I remembered it as having a different silhouette- maybe it's just the angle. We loved it out there- so different from Florida!

Kaloka, that is indeed Shiprock! The photo source is from Farmington, about 35 miles east of the rock. I like it.

Dragoonrider is very quick to give advice, but not posting any of his own pictures. Yes, it is Shiprock, taken (with a good zoom) from the location described. I live around Mesa View and see Shiprock from this distance every day.
