I spent a good part of the day at our local mini-Pripiyat, North Ridge Estates, an upscale building site that had to be abandoned in 2001 due to asbestos contamination in the soil. It's eerie, and absurd that so much has gone to waste. About three families have stayed behind and, as far as anyone knows, they're thriving. However, cleanup is still in progress as money becomes available.

Around here we have these subdivisions with only one house and spots for more, however, the market went bust!

The houses seem remarkably un-vandalized?

They are mostly intact and as far as I could tell the few broken windows had been replaced. I found it odd that they weren't just boarded up. If this was near an urban area they would be stripped by now. I don't get it (people here are no more honest than anywhere else I've lived).
