gives new meaning to "footprints on a lonely beach" .. it's a delightful shot!

I just got back from Hole-in-the-Rock, and as fate would have it, the only nice place to camp anywhere near the end of that amazing road is on a ledge above upper Davis Gulch, secluded against the rocky domes, with shade trees. What a way to experience the Escalante! Perilously walking ALONG the rim of Davis slot canyon is as awesome as getting down inside. Someday I want to hike the entire length of the Escalante River, but I wish I'd done it 20 years ago, before tourists discovered it. Well at least I got to experience Rainbow Bridge 35 years go, the old-fashioned way, backpacking in not boating in. Cheers!

Triton, thanks for your comment! Great story, and I am glad that you are still out there, enjoying yourself! That's the way to live!
