Bakery Iolkos Athanasiou Velentza - ΑΡΤΟΠΟΙΕΙΟΝ Η ΙΩΛΚΟΣ ΑΘΑΝΑΣΙΟΥ ΒΕΛΕΝΤΖΑ

The oven of Velentza the Alli Meria it was built in 1897, according to the date engraved on a plate grypidas with original K.A.B. possibly the owner. The building from 1897 until late 1970 while operating as a bakery, grocery store and krasopoleio. In 1910, according to the inscription, decorated with frescoes by the great folk painter Theophilos Hadjimichael. For this reason, were among the first buildings classified as historical monuments in the region of Thessaly. The building is ground floor with stone, rectangular in plan view. It consists of a single room, to the west of which is the installation of the oven. Decorated wall inscribed with nine, one in front and eight inside, which remained in excellent condition. These paintings are framed with black outline and symmetrically distributed in space, starting from the middle of the wall upwards. Besides the paintings there is no other embellishment. The works of folk artist Theophilos in the bakery Velentza not follow any particular order, and various heroic figures from history and tradition juxtaposed next to each other. In of the facade wall is the inscription "The HELLAS anangenitheisa and the Fereos" and the other eight the following inscriptions: "The heroine Helena in 1821," "The Young Hercules Panais Koutalianos in 1884", "Erotokritos and Areti" , "the great bandit East Memet Tsakitzis Efes", "The Aretousa puts the crown of victory over the head of Erotokritos", "The Samson through the bravery of a lion kill," "the hero Votsaris Marcos in 1823," "The Immortal Garefis Costas." The oven of Velentza should be - if not the first - from the first premises in Pelion - Volos painted by Theophilos with pictures.
