Ah, but just as my hair may be compliments of Mr Grecian 2000, my skies usually have to come from Adobe. The trick in both cases is not to make it too obvious!!

Well Jeff, how fortunate of you to capture these lovely old cottages.. I say this because they no longer exist..

I refer to the five cottages shown here on the horizon, far left. Starting from the yellow one, they were demolished in a northerly direction.

Now there is a yawning gap..

Sadly, major subsidence undermined their foundations which a meant a very rapid demolition job..They were removed, brick by brick, by a team of guys working from two cherry pickers. Access for the demolition machinery was only made possible by the construction of a temporary road from the Abbey car-park since there is only a narrow footpath to access them by foot!

All the material was transported by dumper truck via the temporary road and tipped in the car park and then removed by HGV's.

As far as I can see, this is Alfleda Terrace and we stayed in the third or fourth cottage along in 2009.

It was on a very steep escarpment (and yes, the luggage had to be hand-balled along the footpath from the Ropery) but the views were unsurpassed.

Very sad to hear of the demise.

Thanks for the information Jim

Hi Jeff, not all of Alflaeda terrace has gone, there are three or four cottages remaining at the northerly end..but their future must remain uncertain. I bet they cant get insurance on them!
