The Crab Island monument was erected in 1908 to memorialize those who perished in the many naval battles on this historic lake during the American Revolution and War of 1812. Crab Island is the final resting place of over 150 British and American sailors buried together in a mass grave after perishing in the Battle of Plattsburgh.
