Billy Thank you and very glad you were the first my Scottish friend!
Anne thank you very much
Hola Arturo, Soy le agradezco muy bien. Espero que usted esté haciendo bien. Gracias usted mucho por la visita y el comentario encantador
Marilyn Yes they do travel! They were lovely in this setting but they are classed as a noxious weed here. Down in the North Western suburbs of Melbourne they are everywhere and it has been almost impossible to get rid of them and it renders many blocks of land useless yet on the South Eastern side of town, you never See them. It's strange how they never germinated and took over here as well.

Hi George I too have Scottish ancestors. But I think the Italian influence is strongest in me.
to add a link:
bring up you photo on screen - take note of the number in the address line in the toolbar or "copy" the address
type a [ in your comments box - type in what ever you want to call the link then close the ]
then straight after the ] (no spaces) type ( and paste or add the address, then close the )
I'll do an example but I wont type the ] or the last ) so you can see what is typed.
[happy holidays close the squarecbracket here(http://www.panoramio.com/photo/123456 close the bracket here
Hope this makes sense and helps

Greetings Palmina, How thoughtful to post the thistle. What a beautiful flower, with an attitude. The ranchers consider it a weed because of what it does to the grasses for the cattle. Hay going into Wyoming must be inspected and certified weed free, including this Scottish Heirloom.
Cheers,
Rich

Hi Rich I love the Thistle, so it was a pleasure to post it for my Scottish (and of Scottish ancestry) friends. Sadly it is considered a very bad weed here too.
We have a funny law here, but I guess it must work. When you travel down from Sydney to Melbourne you get to the border and are not allowed to take any fruit over it. You have to deposit any fruit into a rubbish bin. This is to stop Fruit Fly coming into Victoria. It always cracks us up to think of the flies getting to the border and reading the signs and saying "Oh my..... we better not fly past this point, turn around!!"

Greg Steenbeeke, on February 7, 2008, said:
Hi Palmina and Rich
Palmina, the law applies not from the border, but from the start of the Murrumbidgee Irrigation Area (MIA). For a large distance around this boundary they make an effort to control all wild fruit trees (i.e. cut them out) and that doesn't allow the fruit fly the opportunity to travel into the zone. Not perfect, but it has enormously reduced the amount of control chemical used on fruit in the MIA. Now, if we could just get the lack of rain sorted out they'd be a happier bunch of farmers down there (well, maybe - they'd find something else to grumble about.. ;) )
Here are some of my own 'thistly' entries: black thistle (and another of the same pictured in New Zealand), saffron thistle (more of a Mediterranean species really), and nodding thistle - a really nasty noxious weed, for which it is an interesting coincidence that the photo number ends in '666'!
Cheers, Greg

Hi Greg Thanks for the info. I agree we could do with a good bit of rain, not as much as the poor folk in Queensland are getting but a good few down pours non the less. It's sad to see everywhere so dry. I was just being silly with the signs for the fruit fly's. It's like when you see the signs that say "kangaroo's next 2 mile" me and Kevin always say how clever the Roos are to know to stay in the between the signs. Just a bit of a laugh.
I'll look at your thistles in a second. Cheers for the visit and the comments.

Hi Greg & Palmina. I’ve got together a few links to show Thistles from around the word & I’ve added Greg’s four. You can find the links here if you’d like a look.

Hi Billy glad to here from you. If I knew how to do it I'd start a forum thingy for the Thistles. They seem to be very popular - just like the Scots!!
I'll look at your's now.
Love,
Pali

I'll try. Boy says Hi. HE's just getting ready to watch the match tonight. Aston Villa and the Toon. The way the Toon's been playing, an Astin Martin would beat them! Still all clubs can't be as good as my team, they can dream though!!

Tell Kevin good luck. Unfortunately Kevin Keegan hasn’t had the desired effect on the team yet...but give him time. I’m on my way out for lunch now but I will try to catch the hi-lights later.

Hope you enjoyed your lunch. I'll have to watch the replay 'cause I fell asleep.

Cheers Palmina. We went to a Chinese buffet place. It was very nice but I ate too much as usual! I’m going to watch highlights of the Newcastle game later although I already know the score. I’ll not tell you in case you want to watch without knowing.
George has starting a new branch of the Thistle Club here.
Palmina Moore, on February 9, 2008, said:
Glad you had a good lunch. The only trouble with Chinese is you eat and make yourself too full to move but then an hour later you feel like something else.
Cheers, I don't know the score but we'll watch it this arvo and then Man U is on tonight.
