Amazing, I was there Jan 1966 - Jan 1967. Lived in the grey building. I can't remember what the dorm ids were but remember the Ptarmigan Club. Looks like the antenna array is gone around the old ops area.
Was on Adak from approx Sept 1971 thru May 1972. Vietnam winding down, people getting 6-month cuts from their original enlistment obligation. Ruggedly beautiful place, awfully forlorn.
I was assigned to Adak Island in 1964, a remote assignment for a small Air Force detachment (6684th, I think) using Navy equipment. I lived in the enclosed grey comples, if I remember correctly. I only explored the island one day with buddies, due to weather and restricted activities outside. Fascinating to see it as it is recently.
