The Castle of the Dukes of Brabant is situated in the center of Turnhout.
The castle dates from the 12th century, and was repeatedly rebuilt. At the time of Mary of Hungary, regent of the Netherlands, it was a "Court of plaisanterie".
In the 18th and 19th century the castle fell into disrepair. The province of Antwerp bought the building around the turn of the 20th century from the town of Turnhout and after the First World War ,under the leadership of provincial architect Jules Taeymans, a thorough restoration took place.
Today, the court of justice is located here.
