Interesting artwork, Art, and nicely captured. :-)

Do you know if it's supposed to symbolize something?

Greetings,

PerO

Hi Per, I'm sorry my reply is so late, I was on a 7 day 350 mile camping and bike ride in Ohio. This sculpture by Arnaldo Pomodoro is labeled Sfera con Sfera, or "sphere within a sphere." It is located in the central garden of the Vatican Museum in Rome. Some art critics feel it reflects a fractured world. Measuring four meters in diameter, it was created in 1990. The artist's specialty is the casting of gigantic geometric objects. The fractured surface of the outer sphere reveals a very complex inner sphere which may cause you to reflect on the harsh difficulties that the modern world finds itself in at the end of the second millennium. Of course I didn't think all these things when I saw it. The sculpture is on a bearing that allows it to rotate. The person at the left in my photo had just walked up to it and started it spinning. I caught him running away. Best regards. -Art

Thanks for your supplementary comment, Art. :-)

Yes, I assumed that you were on a bike trip since you all of a sudden disappeared for a few days.

I've had a look into your Picasa gallery too, and it seems that you had a great trip. :-)

Best wishes from Norway,

PerO
