Transit of Venus across the Sun, June 5, 2012. View from Newark, Delaware, USA.

Newark, Delaware, USA. Transit of Venus across the sun. The small black dot near the top of the sun is the silhouette of Venus during the late afternoon of June 5, 2012. Heavy cloud cover made it seem unlikely to see this rare event in my area. But as I was driving to do some shopping, the sun briefly showed through a thin spot in the clouds. I had my cammera with me just in case the opportunity presented itself, so I pulled over on the side of the road and ran into a nearby field to get this shot. 200mm lens with 2X extender. No filters, just manually stopped down the aperture while looking throught the viewfinder, quickly composed, closed eye and pressed the shutter. The next transit of Venus across the sun will be 2117!
