This is literally the birthplace of the city, where the original transcontinental railroad crossed the Folsom-Lincoln line. The place was known simply as "Junction" until the name Roseville took hold.
To the right are Roseville Amtrak station, J.R. Davis Yard, Sacramento, Martinez and Oakland; to the left, Rocklin, Donner Summit, Reno, Sparks, Ogden and Omaha; and to the back, Lincoln, Marysville, Binney Junction, Dunsmuir, Klamath Falls and Portland. The Folsom line went straight ahead initially but it ceased operations the year after the direct line to Sacramento was opened.
Behind the railroad go Atlantic Street and Vernon Street which were part of the original Lincoln Highway and later the Historic U.S. Route 40.
The larger building on the right was the former headquarters of Roseville Telephone Company (currently SureWest Communications); it still hosts a telephone museum.
