HAPPY AUSTRALIA DAY to my Aussie pals and to my friends from different climes, a poem to share our Australia day with you....
My Counrty by Dorothea McKellar
The love of field and coppice, Of green and shaded lanes, Of ordered woods and gardens Is running in your veins. Strong love of grey-blue distance, Brown streams and soft, dim skies - I know but cannot share it, My love is otherwise.
I love a sunburnt country, A land of sweeping plains, Of rugged mountain ranges, Of droughts and flooding rains. I love her far horizons, I love her jewel-sea, Her beauty and her terror – The wide brown land for me!
The stark white ring-barked forests, All tragic to the moon, The sapphire-misted mountains, The hot gold hush of noon, Green tangle of the brushes Where lithe lianas coil, And orchids deck the tree-tops, And ferns the warm dark soil.
Core of my heart, my country! Her pitiless blue sky, When, sick at heart, around us We see the cattle die – But then the grey clouds gather, And we can bless again The drumming of an army, The steady soaking rain.
Core of my heart, my country! Land of the rainbow gold, For flood and fire and famine She pays us back threefold. Over the thirsty paddocks, Watch, after many days, The filmy veil of greenness That thickens as we gaze.
An opal-hearted country, A wilful, lavish land – All you who have not loved her, You will not understand – Though earth holds many splendours, Wherever I may die, I know to what brown country My homing thoughts will fly.
Sorry if it doens't space correctly when put into Panoramio!

Excellent portrait Palmina. Kevin looks every inch a True Blue Aussie even through I know he’s a Geordie at heart.
What a truly beautiful poem. I recently listed to Anthems - A Celebration of Australia by John Williamson. They’re some really great songs on that Cd. True Blue & A Flag of Our Own are two of my favourites.

Vlad thank you for the visit and the nice comment about Kevin, yo are right, he is very kind.
Anne Thank you. This is Kevin, my hubby of almost 30 years. As you and Vlad point out, he is a very kind man. The poem is a wonderful one.
Billy Thank you, Kevin also says "Hi" He's always happy when he trying to light a B.B.Q. (something he's never quite mastered, I usually have the fire extinguisher on standby and plenty of Andrews Liver salts for the after effects of the burnt sausages when he does his Barby! :))
John Williamson is a good song writer. I too love True Blue. It's iconic here. Have you heard his Old man Emu? It's quite funny
Auturo Estoy apesadumbrado que no podría traducir su pregunta para contestarle.
Steandeb The poem is a nice one isn't it. It strikes a chord just like "I vow to thee my Country" does from home. Kevin used to work for Tooheys so there's always some in the fridge but yesterday he settled on a few "Heineken's" and some burnt sausages!

We know the Wiggles Safari DVD, courtesy of my sister in Melbourne, & Old Man Emu is on that. My son (3.5 years old, never visited Australia) identified a robin as a kookaburra the other day on the strength of that DVD!
Happy Australia Day to you & yours, Palmina - & I'll send the same greeting to my sister & her family & now also my brother & his family, all in Pakenham!
Palmina Moore, on January 27, 2008, said:
Victor, gracias por sus comentarios en ambos casos. El traductor electrónico no es muy exacto y no soy seguro qué usted comenta en segundo lugar está diciendo. ¿Pienso está pidiendo que diera a Kevin un abrazo en el saludo??? He passes on his warm regards to you too.
Inessa thank you Kevin sends his best wishes. He has heard a lot about you. We did have a nice day and although our plans for a 700 km drive into the hills didn't happen - we had friends drop in and had a B.B.Q. instead, (with someone else cooking as we'd have to call the fire brigade or the medics if Kevin was to do it! LOL.)
Sarah How cute is that song. I can sing that with an Australian accent! it was the first Australian thing I learnt when I was about 16. It's amazing how well 4 pretty average men in tight skivvy's have taken the world by storm - sorry to any Wiggles fans out there. Me....I just want to chop off those wagging fingers!
You may have seen the photo's of the Ostriches, they were taken only about 10 minutes from Pakenham, up towards Gembrook. Give you family my best.

Dear Palmina,
I am delighted that you and Kevin enjoyed Australia Day and the love for this country of ours is so special for you. Even though we have met Kevin's finger, and his back and side it's nice to meet him eye to eye. No wonder the ostrich thought so much of him.
True blue, I reckon (at least until he tries to pronounce 'raspberry'). Oh by the way, my father-in-law migrated from South Shields and we've been there to meet and stay with all the rellies. Gateshead included.
Ian
Palmina Moore, on January 31, 2008, said:
Hi Ian Kevin says "hi" too. I think the Ostrich fell in 'lurve' with Kevin. LOL.
South Shields, just a stones throw from where he was born in Wallsend. My Nana settled in Gateshead when she first came out from Italy then moved a little further west into a country village. I used to visit Gateshead quite regularly to visit my Uncle when I was young. The North East of England is a sadly under rated part of England, never much on the tourist route except to travel through it to Scotland, but there's so much beauty and history. It's a great part of the world.
Kevin does love his Akubra. What's wrong with the way us Geordies say Razbree ??
Thanks for the visit.

Dear Inessa we didn't get anywhere this weekend again. Friends dropped in again so the drive was out. I'm determined to get away next weekend though. I'll keep your posted. Hope you are well!

Hi Palmina. Every since you posted this portrait I’ve thought Kevin reminded me of someone but I couldn’t quite place who. After studying it again today I finally realised that it’s a workmate and fellow hill walker. You probably can’t see the resemblance in this shot so I’m going to post one I took at work along side the one of Kevin. Once you have viewed it & commented on it I’ll delete it. You know I like a joke but this is a genuine & untouched photo. I think my friend will be more flattered by the comparison than Kevin will!

Marek Thank you. Kevin will be happy!
Billy cheers for the link, I do like the other photo better. Boy said cheers, too.
George Thanks for the visit. I thought it was time everyone met him instead of just his bitten (by Ostrich) hands, or just his back. LOL
Australia is a beautiful country indeed.
