Some katamanga said:"Are you sure this is Kadoma town hall? I worked in the Post Office across the road from the Kadoma Town Hall, and don't remember it as having a clock tower. There was a fish pond (visible in Google Earth) between my window and the TH, and the road in front of the Kadoma TH front doors ran from left to right, not directly to/from as in this picture. I think that the photograph is of Kwekwe Town Hall, and if not Kwekwe, then it's Gweru." - so let me answer: it IS Kadoma Townhall. The post office (and Beattie's butchery is left - the "road" leading to the TH is actually 1 out of 2 driveways coming off Robert Mugabe Way.
Is that you Hubertus? From Collège de Mazenod, Ngaoundéré, Cameroun. C'est moi Réjean Bouchard.Hello!!!!!!!bouchardrejean@hotmail.com
Je suis aussi sur Facebook.
I was born in Gatooma (Kadoma) and lived there for 42 years. This building is not the town hall. It houses the magistrates court and various government offices. To the right of this building are the municipal offices and to the left another building containg the mines office.
Hi,
I was very interested to see the photos of Kadoma (formerly Gatooma), because I too was born there.....in 1937. The building refered to by Benny is similar to one in my late father;s album, and which he titled, 'Government Buildings'. I searched on Google Earth under that heading, which turned up no results, so I just went to Kadoma instead. Of course my father's old photo is black and white, and bought our little family back to England in Feb/March 1940. I have never been back to visit the country of my birth but am thinking of doing so .......before it is too late! My father went there as a Methodist Missionary about 1932 and my mother joined him and they married there in 1935. The album contains some very interesting photos, though the quality after so many years is not so good. What a pity there were no digital cameras in those days!
Thanks for sharing your photos.
I was in the BSAP and stationed in Gatooma from 1968 - 1973. The photo is definitely the Magistrates Court & also Police District Headquarters, and other government departments. One year just before Xmas there was a very strong storm and a large fir tree in front of the building was blown over, as we were short of a Xmas Tree at the police pub, 'Run Em' Inn' I took a few 'bandits' (prisoners) around there with the 5 tonner, cut it half took it back to the police station and stood it up outside the pub, it must have been about 30 feet high.
