Marmot poses for photo on its rock perch overlooking Hidden Lake sw of Logan Pass, Glacier Nat. Park, USA

Selected for Google Maps and Google Earth

Even mammals like to just sit, sun themselves, and enjoy the great view. This marmot was found sitting on a rock outcrop on the north saddle of Reynolds Mtn. Hiked back to the same place in 2011 but no marmot-- hope a grissly bear did not get it. Winters up here are long and hard on wildlife.

Hi Baha,

Thank you for your kind comment on my mountain photos in panoramio. I have been doing landscape photography for more than 50 years and hiking mountain trails for more than 40 years in western USA. I try to create photos that are unique and from less traveled areas in the American West. Sincerely, Phil H

That is a great capture, thanks for posting it. Even without the marmot its a beautiful photo, the animal is like a cherry on top. I got a similar shot, with a marmot, on the Highland trail, 2002, against mount Gould.

Hi Aryehchay, Thank you for the kind comment on my Glacier NP marmot photo. Also thank you for inviting me to your new Glacier- Waterton group. Have added some of my pictures to the group but with a recent panoramio site revision, about a third of my groups do not have the ADD buttom including your Glacier group. I can still add photos but have to "backdoor" by going to the your group site & then adding photos. I have quite a collection after about 20 trips to Glacier National Park over the last 6 years. Made only one trip to Glacier this year (Iceberg Lake hike) due to bad weather. Phil

Thanks again for your visit & kind comment and like. Glacier National Park is a great place to explore, especially if one takes the time to go off the beaten path to find unique seldom photographed locations like this one. The posing marmot was a extra bonus for a already great view.
